Job Summary and Description
Responsible for the continued development, implementation, promotion and daily operation of a specialized program. Foster a sense of ownership and pride in the staff, manage costs in a disciplined manner, and encourage profitable case volume growth. Manage the daily operations of a single line of business within the Funeral Home industry. Responsible for short-term planning as well as achieving annual sales and production targets, business goals, developing a professional and effective staff, and exceeding client family expectations.

Reports to the Dean of Integrated Planning and Performance Excellence at San Antonio College.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in business, science, psychology, or related field required.
  • Twelve (12) hours of college coursework in Finance & Accounting required.
  • Associates degree in Applied Science Funeral Services / Mortuary Science required.
  • Five or more years of experience in the funeral industry or applicable discipline, with progressively increased responsibilities.
  • Two years of experience supervising and effectively managing budgets and expenses.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration
  • Two years’ experience supervising and effectively managing budgets and expenses in the funeral industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriately related field – i.e. Business, Psychology, Sociology, Biology or other related fields.
  • Willingness to earn a Master’s Degree within five years of employment.
    Dual licensed in the State of Texas or ability to reciprocate license.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license required with an insurable driving record. 
  • A minimum of 7 years full time work experience at a funeral home as both a funeral director and embalmer. 
  • A minimum of 3 years funeral home managerial experience in daily operations to include: 
    • FTC Compliance 
    • Texas Funeral Service Compliance 
    • Overseeing operations budget 
    • Ordering supplies as needed 
    • Taking first calls, arranging and directing of funeral services
    • Completing and filing required forms – TXERVER, Insurance Claims 
    • Assists in preparation, dressing, presenting and/or cosmetizing the deceased according to professional standards
    • Working visitation, coordinating funerals and conducting funerals as lawfully required and/or requested by family

Licenses and Certifications:

  • State of Texas Funeral Director and Embalmer Licensure required. If licensed in another state must be eligible to apply for licensure in the state of Texas within 6 months from date of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and must be insurable through the organization’s insurers.

Motor Vehicle Report is required in addition to background check and drug screen
